이 연구는 정치뉴스 프레임이 과학기술 이슈에 대한 뉴스수용자의 해석과 의견에 미치는 영향을 검증했다. 뉴스수용자가 동일한 내용의 기사를 읽었을지라도 사전에 노출된 정치뉴스의 프레임(책임, 갈등, 인간적 흥미, 도덕성)에 따라 다이빙벨 투입 기사를 해석하는 방식이 다를 것으로 예측했다. 연구문제에 대한 답을 얻기 위해 실험연구방법을 채택했으며 실험 결과 연구자가 조작한 기사의 정치뉴스프레임에 따라 수용자는 과학기술 이슈인 다이빙벨에 대해 서로 다른 해석을 내리고 형성된 의견 또한 차이를 보인 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 토대로 이론적·실무적 함의와 한계 그리고 향후 연구가 필요한 새로운 주제를 제안했다.

The purpose of the study is to examine how political news frames moderate the effect of audiences’ interpretation on opinion of scientific issue, ‘Diving Bell’. This paper tests three hypotheses by using an experimental method in which 307 college students participated. The results of the analysis accept H1 and H2. Firstly, audiences who form ‘attribution of responsibility’ narrative frame interpret that the news emphasize responsibility of the government, and tend to be in favor of ‘Diving-bell’ input for the Sewol Ferry disaster. Secondly, users who apply ‘conflict’ narrative frame interpret that the news underline people’s conflict and opposition. Moreover, they assert that the discussion of experts about ‘Diving-Bell’ input should be respected by the government. Thirdly, people who activate ‘human-interest’ narrative frame tend to interpret toward feeling-oriented response, such as anger and grief of the bereaved. In addition, they also consider that the opinion of the bereaved must be reflected in decision making process about ‘Diving-Bell’ input. Audiences who get ‘morality’ narrative frame interpret the news focusing on the procedure of ‘Diving-Bell’ input. They stress that the determination of ‘Diving-Bell’ input has no moral problems. Based on the results, this research offers some implications of the study, and provides limitations and suggestions for the future study.
